Statement by Honda Canada Regarding Fuel Feed Line Leak Recall: 2012 Civic

TORONTO - Honda Canada will voluntarily recall 337 units of model-year 2012 Civic vehicles to replace the fuel feed line, which could potentially leak a small amount of fuel.

During manufacture of the fuel line assembly, an O-ring may have been displaced which could potentially lead to a fuel leak at a joint where two segments of pipe attach to each other. Only two of the affected vehicles in Canada have been sold. All remaining 335 affected vehicles will be repaired prior to sale. No injuries or fires have been reported related to this defect.

When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end, in addition to contacting customers by mail, in mid-April owners of these vehicles can determine if their vehicle requires repair by contacting their dealer or by calling toll free to 1-888-946-6329.

Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Regarding Brake Master Cylinder Seal Recall: Selected 2005 to 2007 Acura RL and 2005 to early 2007 Honda

From what I understand, Honda used the same supplier as Toyota on this latest round of recalls....
American Honda Motor Co., Inc., today announced a voluntary safety recall of 471,820 model year 2005 to 2007 Acura RL and model year 2005 to early 2007 Honda Odyssey vehicles to replace a seal in the brake master cylinder.

Honda made this decision to prevent the unlikely failure of a seal in the brake master cylinder. It is possible for the seal to fail if the Honda Genuine DOT 3 brake fluid installed at the factory is replaced with certain aftermarket brake fluids with reduced lubrication properties, followed by a manual brake bleed with full and rapid stroke of the brake pedal. This could cause the seal to become twisted within its retention groove. The twisted seal could then leak a small amount of brake fluid when the vehicle is used. A brake fluid leak due to this would cause the low brake fluid warning lamp to illuminate until repaired. Failure to repair the master cylinder seal would eventually result in a soft brake pedal and the possible loss of one of the two hydraulic braking circuits.

Drivers of affected vehicles should be aware that this condition will always cause the low brake fluid light to illuminate. If any of the vehicle's malfunction indicators are illuminated, owners should take their vehicle to a dealer for repair immediately.American Honda will begin to notify owners of affected vehicles within the next two months. Acura and Honda dealers will repair affected vehicles free of charge using a revised design of the brake master cylinder seal.

Honda announces recall for ignition interlock

Let's put this 21,000 Honda Civic's in perspective for all those that are up in arms over the latest recall for Honda, in 2003 Honda sold 65,169 Civic's in Canada and 62,125 in 2004. (Source; http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/auto-auto.nsf/vwapj/2004statseng.pdf/$FILE/2004statseng.pdf) Below I have supplied the contact numbers if you would like to see if you're affected by the recall - for both Canada and US.Toronto, Ontario – Honda Canada has announced a recall on certain 2003 and 2004 models to prevent a malfunction of the ignition interlock feature. The recall affects certain 2003 Honda Civics, 2003 Acura 1.7ELs, and 2003-2004 Honda Elements.

Approximately 21,000 Civics, 2,000 Acura 1.7ELs and 3,000 Elements are involved. Honda said it has received several complaints about such failures in these vehicles, but is not award of any resulting crashes or injuries in Canada.

The ignition interlock mechanism can be damaged or worn during use. If this happens, it may be possible to remove the ignition key even though the shift lever is not in Park. This could result in the vehicle moving if it is not in the Park position when the key is removed.

Owners of affected vehicles in CANADA should contact an authorized dealer to schedule a repair once they receive notification, which will be sent to owners starting in late September 2010. To determine if a vehicle is affected by the problem, call 1-888-946-6329.
