Greatest Rally Cars Pictures top

What can I say? We’ve now moved on to a post I’ve been looking forward to writing. All about quite simply the greatest, if not very short, era of rallying to ever occur. A class of race car so unrestricted and outrageous, it brought thousands of spectators lining the stages. Power levels were astronomical, the crowds were ridiculously huge and the drivers some of the finest ever lived. Its popularity and success brought about its demise after spectator and driver deaths forced the FIA to ban it. This is a collection of cars that became too fast to race. This…is Group B.The story begins, believe it or not, in 1980, when Audi decided to embark on a project to go rallying. They came up with the unique Quattro, which was so because it was the first competition rally car with four-wheel-drive. The FIA were sceptical at first, as the drivetrain wasn’t allowed in the rules and it was also considered too bulky and heavy to be successful. Taking this into the final verdict, they went ahead and allowed the Quattro to compete, thinking that their 4WD system would just slow it down and make it uncompetitive. How very, VERY wrong they were. A Quattro driven by Hannu Mikkola was used as a course car on an event. It’s a fact that had he been entered as a participant, he would have won by 9 minutes.
The car won it’s first actual event, the Austrian round of the European championship and from there just set the rallying world alight. In 1982, French female driver Michele Mouton became the first woman to win an international motorsports event and so narrowly missed out on becoming World Rally Champion had it not been for the Audi’s transmission failing in the final stages of the Ivory Coast Rally, allowing Opel’s Walter Rohrl to sweep in and claim it. In the same year, Group B was announced. The rules stated that only 200 examples of the car being entered had to be produced before it could be homolgated. It was also a much more relaxed class, with a kind of “anything goes” approach allowing manufacturers to pretty much do what they liked. A further 20 could be produced to allow “Evolution” models, which really were extreme versions of the original car.Lancia were the first to build a true Group B car with the 037, a modified version of the Beta Monte Carlo. It was rear wheel drive and initially carried 265hp before being boosted to 325 in the Evo model. It won the manufactuers championship for Lancia but Audi’s Hannu Mikkola took the marque’s first Group B driver’s title. Also entering that year had been the little Renault 5 Turbo with a punchy little turbocharged engine mounted in the middle of the car giving it perfect weight distribution and almost go-kart like handling. It won 3 WRC events in it’s lifetime, the Monte Carlo once and the Tour de Corse twice.

A motorcycle with breathtaking acceleration, nimble handling, and world-class fit and finish. A machine so advanced it demanded a new performance category: Ultimate Sport. With Suzuki’s experience in building high-performance motorcycles, meeting the engine performance goals and building an excellent chassis wouldn’t be a problem. But to make this kind of performance seem effortless would be the ultimate challenge. One of the engineers recalled seeing the incredible flight of a small Falcon indigenous to Japan called Hayabusa. The Hayabusa is not the biggest or strongest bird in Japan, but it has the amazing ability to slice through the air
reaching speeds of over 186 mph, making normal flight seem effortless. The engineer realized he had discovered the key element to the design. Make the bike able to slice through the air like a Hayabusa and normal performance would be almost effortless. It would be the most aerodynamic Suzuki ever built and it would be called the Hayabusa…download for more informationWe found this pdf manual book file from google search engine that are published from this original site www.superbikeplanet.com. SEMA: HPP Comes up with its own Trans-Am Camaro kit

Nice!
The last time we heard from Heide Performance Products (HPP), the Michigan-based tuner showcased a Daytona conversion for Dodge's Challenger. Keeping with the vintage theme, HPP is now ready to show its next pony car conversion - a Camaro-based Trans-Am kit - at this year's SEMA show in Vegas.

As with all the other Firebird body kits out there (Lingenfelter's, ASC's, etc), HPP's version does its best to bring back the good-ol' days of the screaming chicken. The results, as with any "we're selling you memories" conversion, vary.

Regarding the proposition of selling this conversion (for anything other than the collectability factor), I don't see a point. Pontiac is D-E-A-D, it's not coming back, and that means anyone's "new" Trans-Am will forever be a Chevy wearing a costume. It's similar to having a Plymouth nameplate on a modern Chrysler or Dodge; the vintage naming works for the Daytona, but not for the Superbird.

Alongside HPP's Trans-Am will be a body kit for the Camaro that helps give Chevy's kinda-sorta-dated sports coupe some extra flair. Also, HPP will have a Camaro wearing an HPP T-Top kit, too. Expect more info, including pics, pricing, and power, as it becomes available.

Honda, Hyundai issue anti-used-parts memos, junkyards object

The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) issued a formal complaint letter with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against two car manufacturers, Hyundai Motor America and American Honda. Both companies released statements that warn against the use of recycled auto parts, and indicate that their use will void vehicle warranties issued by the companies. ARA said those statements and their threatened warranty refusals could be violations of the Magnuson-Moss Act.

Use of these recycled parts, a $22-billion industry, has been widely accepted for decades and there is a long track record of their successful use, ARA said. Recycled parts are original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. They are fully functional and are in many cases identical to the original parts Hyundai Motor America and American Honda are requiring, according to ARA. Recycled parts were new OEM parts at some point, yet both Hyundai Motor America and American Honda are calling for the use of their own new parts in repairs.

“Neither manufacturer has provided any evidence that parts unaffected by an accident become inadequate once reused, which begs the question why their use is not supported by either company,” ARA’s Chief Executive Officer Michael E. Wilson states in his appeal to the FTC.
“Following the logic held by these companies, as soon as a new Hyundai, Honda or Acura drives off the lot, its parts are unsuitable for use as replacement parts in another vehicle, implying that the parts are unfit for use as soon as the car drives off the lot.”

In addition, recycled parts have several additional benefits compared to new parts:
Recycled parts allow consumers to save on costs while using parts identical to new OEM parts.

Recycled parts are better for the environment, since no additional resources or energy were used to create an unnecessary new replacement part.

Auto recyclers provide warranties on any recycled part used in a repair, indicating that recycled parts are not used in an attempt to cut corners with customers. "We believe the statements made by Hyundai Motor America and America Honda are part of a concerted effort among automobile manufacturers to limit competition in the automotive parts market to try to limit their competition,” said Wilson.

TYPHOON Based on BMW X5 new43

Details on the G-Power BMW X5 Typhoon RS have been released, and it is currently the most powerful BMW X5 in the world based off the xDrive48i. From the factory it is powered by a 4.8 liter engine, and after the tuning performed by G-Power, performance numbers were increased by an amazing 270 hp and 475 Nm of torque. Resulting with a final output of 625 hp at 6,100 rpm, and 700 Nm of torque at 5,300 rpm. The upgrades include the latest G-Power SK III RS Supercharger that has a 1.0 bar boost pressure, new internal engine parts, engine electronics, ECU tuning, and a modified transmission. The BMW X5 Typhoon RS can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 16 seconds, and has an overall top speed of 177 mph.
The performance upgrades also include a high performance exhaust system, racing catalysts, and an aluminum charge air cooling system. Aerodynamic improvements are also handled by G-Power and consist of wing extensions, front and rear skirts, and are made of OEM quality PU-rim technology for the strongest body pieces. Extending the fenders by seven inches allowed the fitment of the large G-Power Silverstone forged aluminum wheels, and they measure 23×11 in the front, and 23×12 in the rear. The 23 inch wheels are the largest available to fit the BMW X5 Typhoon RS and come wrapped in high performance Michelin tires that measure 315/25 ZR23. Prices have not yet been released by G-Power, but for the quality of work customers receive from them, you can’t expect this tuning to be cheap.

As we told you a few weeks ago, Suzuki's got themselves a concept car here at the Frankfurt Auto Show and it's called the Kizashi. We don't know much else about it mostly because we can't seem to find a press release on it, but it looks kinda sweet, don't it? The one thing we do know is that according to MoneyControl India, which may be a website about controling the world's banks, India's banks or just about personal finance — they think it's going to be built and Suzuki will be sending a lot of them over to the land of the big Tata. We'll see. We'll also let you know if we get a press release on it.Upstart Japanese brand Suzuki brought out the big guns for their press conference at the 2006 New York International Auto Show. Actually, we’re not sure if he’s related at all, but the first speaker was Toshihiro Suzuki.
The first major debut by Mr. Suzuki was the all-new XL-7 midsize SUV. Replacing theold, Tracker-based seven-seat SUV from a decade ago, this new model looks absolutely more modern. The front… Continue readingCategory: New York International Auto Show,SUVs,SuzukSuzuki also showed yet another all-new vehicle in New York. That's one big exhaust 2009 Suzuki GSX-R600 .While getting a bit late in the product cycle,k Suzuki's GSX-R is still easy to use for all skill-level riders .It still has plenty of power to get the front end light .Though unchanged for '09, the Suzuki's brakes are quite very capable .Suzuki's gear-indicator is a nice touch, though the different power modes just plain aren't needed on a 600 .It may not be new but Atlas was still able to put up the third-fastest time of the Superpole session on the GSX-R - 1:21.03.Bold New Graphics and white wheels highlight the changes for '09. We've got the admit, those white wheels do look goodI believe it's more of a toy of us young computer generation. The bike doesn't make enough power to need. About the only place I would is in the rain, but that's just me. For a beginner rider it may be great. As for how it works, it has variable settings delivery from the ECU which limits the horsepower and its delivery on the B and C modes, while A mode is full steam as well as the standard mode the bike starts up with. If you just turn the key and ride you get A, while B and C have to be selected via a toggle switch on the right handlebar. Putting power to the ground on the Suzuki has never been an issue and most all commended its rider-friendliness, but when it comes to the “exhilaration factor” and sheer speed, the GSX-R is starting to show signs of its age. While it was slightly updated last year, this basic platform has been around since 2005. It still pulled solid dyno numbers (105.15 hp @ 13,000 rpm), but on the track if felt far less exciting than just about everything else. This was also partially echoed during our pilgrimage out to HPCC for performance testing, as it was tied for third in top-speed testing with a 162.22 mph pass as its best. Also, with its very easy-to-use clutch and extremely precise launches it mustered a 11.11 @ 133.74 mph, leaving it tied for third-place in the quarter-mile. While this is favorable, there is no doubt its weight (421.2 lbs.) and bulbous fairing played a major role in holding it bac
